Paper pulp containing beetroot.

Working site specifically, playing with the materials appearing something they are not, like the masks we all wear. Creaturely elements taking flight from the floor, roosting, flying, falling. Exploring layers of meaning..pulped bank statements coupled with life giving beetroot creating a metamorphic rock out of paper. New life from old. Rejecting the everyday yet never being able to truly escape. Fun yet dark.

My research explores the social, psychological and environmental pressures past and present surrounding and shaping us. Concerned with fragility, transformation and the layers that make up identity, the tension between the serious and the humour that gets us through the dark times. My work often has a playful side. I use a variety of mediums: paper, printmaking and paint. My current exploration has lead me to create sculptural 2D and 3D forms from paper I make with pulped up detritus of daily life – documentation, work I have rejected, receipts, junk mail. Investigating the rejection of the banal in favour of the fun, creating new worlds from the dross of everyday. New life from old – rebirth from destruction, never quite escaping – inventing ourselves new.
