Plantasing

2020

12cm x 17cm (x10)

Acrylic on wood and canvas

This work is a continuation of the project started in 2019. This began with a triptych of mandalas influenced by the Art Nouveau style. After researching about artists like Hector Guimard, Jennie Ford and Aphonse mucha, I was really inspired and interested in develop and produce more. This work involves the process of creating, the process of making and the process of researching.

I am a multidisciplinary artist. My work uses performance to connect to the idea of being present, to what it means to have direct experiences and the relationship between art and consciousness. This is exemplified in a work I am making that is an installation about underwater sea creatures and their interactions with the environment they inhabit. Fluid forms will float, glow in the space and reflect.  I create paintings and sculptures which translate ideas about the constant creating and  making process through a range of different mediums and materials such as wood, cast, journals,  polyester, fabric and bubble wrap.

I aim to create interaction between the audience and my installations to communicate ideas in an experiential way. I create work using digital and analogue processes. For example using photography to capture light moving through space.

My research and working methods are in constant adaptation. I am influenced by varied subject matters, nature, color, space, texture and other artists. My work explores the relationship between how research affects my work and vice versa. I created a project about paper towns used on maps to stop reproductions of them being made that imagined urban space that could be lived in that was made entirely of paper. I am very enthusiastic about the development of new ideas and proposals and the role art can play therapeutically. For example, I developed a project that is about giving others the opportunity to express themselves and to try something new. I engaged with the elderly, making casts of their hands and painting, supplying them with the materials and the environment.
